Prayers, bhajans and dignitaries: Amritapuri set for Amma’s 73rd birthday

AMRITAPURI: The 73rd birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi will be held today at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus at Amritapuri. Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan will inaugurate the celebrations at 11 a.m.

The celebrations will begin at 7.30 a.m. with a satsang by Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri, Amma’s first disciple. Amma will arrive at the venue at 9 a.m. and will be received by dignitaries. This will be followed by Guru Paduka Puja and a World Peace Prayer, after which Amma will deliver her blessing address and bhajans will be held. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu are among those who will attend.

A Rs 2-crore assistance from the Mata Amritanandamayi Math for flood-relief operations in Nepal will also be handed over to Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr Surendra Thapa.
