MLA pushes panchayat member into pond; unusual inauguration goes viral

MALAPPURAM: A video of an unusual pond inauguration in Malappuram is going viral on social media. The Thiruthil pond at Peechanipparambu in Mankada has drawn attention after it was inaugurated by Mankada MLA Manjalamkuzhi Ali.

The inauguration was held on Sunday. As part of the ceremony, the MLA pushed Angadippuram panchayat's Ward 4 member Shabeer Manjambra into the pond. Ahead of the event, the MLA had announced that the ward member would jump into the pond to inaugurate it. Shabeer, however, responded that if he jumped in, the MLA and the block panchayat president would also have to jump.

But after the ribbon-cutting, the MLA and those accompanying him pushed Shabeer into the pond, catching him off guard. After climbing out of the pond, Shabeer pushed Perinthalmanna Block Panchayat president Adv. Najma Tabshira into the water as well. The inauguration was held after safety arrangements, including tubes, were placed in the pond.
