THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary M V Govindan has accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of pursuing a politically motivated investigation against Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan in connection with the CMRL-Exalogic case.

Govindan was responding to the ED’s letter to the state police chief seeking registration of a corruption case against Pinarayi Vijayan. He said the CPM would challenge the move both politically and legally.

According to Govindan, the party had anticipated the direction of the investigation much earlier and alleged that attempts had already been made to bring Pinarayi Vijayan into the case.

The CPM state secretariat has decided to take further steps after the state government announces its decision on the ED’s request, Govindan said.

“Once Pinarayi’s name was mentioned in the SFIO report, the party had clarity about where the case was heading. All the details had come out at that time itself. The figure of Rs 182 crore had also been reported earlier. The details of contributions received, including those involving leaders of the current ruling party, had already come out. The case was fabricated by selectively focusing on this particular issue. Why have cases not been registered against anyone else?” M V Govindan asked.
