PATHANAMTHITTA: KSRTC's newly started service in Thannithode today was stopped by private bus employees. KSRTC had not operated services in this area for a few years. Private buses had the monopoly on these routes, and buses were available at 15-minute intervals. The employees and owners of a private bus named 'Blue Hill' came out to protest.
The private bus owners and employees came out to protest, pointing out that there would be a huge loss of income if the Priyadarshini begins service on these routes. MP Anto Antony flagged off the new Priyadarshini buses this morning. Following this, the private bus owner brought all 16 buses owned by him and parked it in the junction. The owner said that the KSRTC bus arrived five minutes earlier than the private buses, causing a big loss of income to them while also wooing other passengers.
Blue Hill buses did not operate today as a sign of protest. Private bus owners say that the authorities had earlier promised not to run new Priyadarshini buses to areas where KSRTC services are not available. However, contrary to this, services have now started on new routes. In addition, private bus owners are also raising serious allegations that these KSRTC buses operating the service do not have permits or fitness certificates.
There have been several disputes with private bus operators regarding KSRTC services on the Thannithode route in the past. The situation worsened today as private bus owners said their concerns were not yet resolved.
