Relief for Kerala as intense heat subsides and weather improves

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the possibility of thunderstorms and rain in isolated places across Kerala from tomorrow until September 16. A warning has also been issued for strong winds, with speeds reaching 30–40 km/h. Considering the possibility of heavy rain, yellow alerts have been issued for several districts in the coming days.

September 14, 2026: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Palakkad
September 15, 2026: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad
September 16, 2026: Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur

Yellow alerts have been issued in these districts, where isolated spells of heavy rain are expected. Heavy rain refers to rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

As part of the Kallakkadal phenomenon, the National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has warned of the possibility of coastal erosion due to high waves measuring 0.9 to 1.3 metres along the coastal areas of Thiruvananthapuram (from Kappil to Pozhiyoor), Kollam (from Alappad to Edava), and Kannur–Kasaragod (from Valapattanam to New Mahe and from Kunjathur to Kottakkunnu). The warning is in effect until 11:30 pm tomorrow.
