Sea recedes around 100 m in Kozhikode, locals express concern; authorities come up with explanation

KOZHIKODE: The sea receded from the Nainamvalappu beach in Kozhikode by around 100 metres on Saturday. The seawater receded from 30-35 meters up to nearly 100 meters in various places. The area was later brought under police control after several people came to the beach after hearing about the rare phenomenon. The incident took place on Saturday around 4 pm.

Meanwhile, District Collector Dr N Tej Lohit Reddy said that the receding of the sea is a normal phenomenon and that there is no tsunami warning. The authorities assessed that there is no cause for concern. The fire force and police have reached the spot.
