Actress and social media influencer Hansika Krishna, daughter of actor and BJP leader Krishna Kumar, has issued a detailed public statement addressing the intense backlash surrounding a controversial video leaked from her private Instagram subscription feature.

The 20-year-old actress faced severe public scrutiny after a video meant exclusively for her paid subscribers was screen-recorded and widely circulated across various social media platforms. Critics online accused the influencer of staging the incident as a publicity stunt to generate revenue and boost subscription numbers.

Breaking her silence on the matter, Hansika released an official statement on her social media handles to share her "truth honestly," describing the incident as an impulsive error in judgment.

An impulsive mistake and immediate deletion

In her statement, Hansika clarified that the video was the result of a "careless and silly decision" made without due consideration. She emphasised that she realised her error almost immediately.

"Posting it was an impulsive decision made in a moment without enough thought, and I regretted it almost immediately," Hansika stated. "Within five minutes of posting it, I realised I shouldn't have done it and I immediately deleted it. Unfortunately, within that short time, it was screen-recorded by a few people who were part of the subscription and it later got circulated widely across social media platforms."

Addressing financial motivations and allegations of chasing clout, Hansika firmly denied the claims, noting her financial independence and her family’s established presence in the entertainment industry.

"At 20 years old, I have been fortunate enough to earn enough to take care of myself. And because of all the love and support you have shown me and my family over the years, publicity is not something we crave or lack in our lives," she added.

Subscription Price Hike Clarified

Following the controversy, the actress drew further criticism for raising her Instagram subscription fee from INR 299 to INR 399. Explaining the logic behind the sudden price hike, Hansika stated it was a deliberate measure to halt further user onboarding during the crisis.

"After everything spiralled, my first instinct was to completely end the subscription, but I knew that would probably create even more speculation and negativity. So I increased the price hoping it would discourage more people from subscribing during that time," she explained.

Furthermore, she disclosed that she did not profit from the viral incident, stating that the entire amount generated from the sudden surge in subscriptions after the controversy has been donated entirely toward a social cause.

Impact on Family and Response to Cyberbullying

The actress expressed deep regret over the timing of the incident, revealing that it occurred just three days before the release of a music video that her sister had worked on for over a year—a project in which Hansika also starred. While the project remained unaffected, she cited the timing as proof that the incident was not a planned marketing tactic.

While accepting her accountability as a public figure, Hansika sharply condemned the targeted harassment and cyberbullying directed at her family by content creators looking to monetise the controversy.

"There are two people who were truly and directly hurt by what I did—myself and my family. Nobody else was directly affected by my actions in the way we were. That is why the amount of bullying, harassment, and hatred that followed online was deeply painful for me to experience," she stated.

She noted that certain individuals turned the situation into a "content opportunity," creating numerous videos using deeply hurtful language solely to drive engagement on their personal accounts.

Concluding her statement, Hansika tendered an unconditional apology to her followers and well-wishers, attributing the mistake to a moment of poor judgment rather than malicious intent. Asking for forgiveness and a second chance, she thanked her friends, family, and supporters for standing by her through the difficult period.
