Actor Sreenath was once a popular star in both Malayalam and Tamil cinema. He appeared in several superhit films in the 80s and 90s. However, he had a fragile mind and struggled to cope with problems. Now, actor and director Alleppey Ashraf has revealed the reasons that led to Sreenath's demise. He shared these details through his YouTube channel.

"I first met Sreenath during the shooting of the film Attimari. He had studied acting at the Madras Film Institute. I also played a villain role in that film. Sreenath always had a small group of friends around him and had a humorous nature. However, he would get deeply upset over certain things we said. Some people from Madras came to the shooting location to meet Sreenath. They wanted him to introduce me to them, but Sreenath refused. After that, his behaviour toward me changed drastically. However, we later became good friends. He became well-known in the Tamil film industry after acting in Rail Payanangal, directed by T. Rajendar in Tamil. The film was a superhit.

Sreenath continued to receive opportunities in Tamil cinema, but he couldn’t sustain his career there for long. There were reasons for that. After consuming alcohol, Sreenath would openly talk about directors’ and producers’ flaws without any filter. I have witnessed this myself. At one point, he was given an advance payment for a role in a famous director’s film. Later, he lost that opportunity. After receiving the advance, Sreenath got close to the producer and tried to convince him to replace the director. Upon learning about this, the director removed Sreenath from the film.

Visa was the first Malayalam film in which Sreenath acted alongside Shanthi Krishna, who was also a prominent Tamil actress. Their love affair became a big news story. Shanthi Krishna’s brother, Suresh Krishna, was a well-known director in Tamil cinema. Sreenath and Shanthi Krishna got married in Guruvayur and lived like an ideal couple. One day, when I visited Thiruvananthapuram, I checked into the Pankaj Hotel. While going to my room, I saw Sreenath coming out of the bar there. He then took me to his house, where he continued drinking. Shanthi Krishna was not at home.

Sreenath spoke to me about several things regarding Shanthi Krishna that he shouldn’t have. I was shocked. Later, when I went to sleep, Sreenath took his car and went out. When he returned, I realized he was not alone. Seeing this, I felt uneasy but chose not to ask him anything. When I later heard about Sreenath and Shanthi Krishna’s divorce, I wasn’t surprised. There was no harmony between them. Sreenath was a person with a fragile mind. Some time later, he got an opportunity to act alongside Mohanlal. When he lost that chance, he became deeply depressed. That was also a factor that led to his death," Ashraf revealed.
