CHENNAI: The situation in Tamil Nadu politics is changing after the election results. TVK, which has 108 seats, is trying hard to reach the absolute majority of 118. Vijay sought permission to form the ministry from Rajendra Arlekar, who is in charge of the Tamil Nadu Governor, but his stand is that he will take oath only after proving his majority. Meanwhile, the police withdrew the security convoy provided to Vijay by midnight yesterday. Vijay was given the Z-plus security provided to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Following the election results, the police had made security arrangements at Vijay's residence and party office. The police explained that the arrangements were made to control the crowd of party workers and fans.
A senior officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector General was appointed to oversee Vijay's security. More than a dozen armed commandos from the state police's security branch CID took over the security duties. An access control system was also set up. Two officers of the rank of Superintendent of Police were also asked to report to the Intelligence Inspector General of Police office. All of them were later withdrawn.
Meantime, the police said that the security arrangements were withdrawn at the request of senior leaders of TVK. He also clarified that they do not need a security convoy and security protocols. However, Vijay will continue to receive 'Y' scale security provided by the central government. Armed guards of the Central Reserve Police Force will provide him security during his travel and residence. Local police also deploy officers during travel and public meetings.
