BENGALURU: The funeral function of Confidant Group chief CJ Roy (56), who died by shooting himself, has been completed. His body was laid to rest at his favourite spot, Confidant Cascade, located on Bannerghatta Road in Bengaluru. The ceremony was attended by family members and close relatives. The last rites were conducted at St. Joseph's Church, following a public homage held at Nature's Cascade, also on Bannerghatta Road.

Roy shot himself during a raid by central agencies at the Confidant Group office in Richmond Circle, Bengaluru, on Friday evening. He was quickly transported to Narayana Hospital in HSR Layout, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.

Investigating officers are also exploring the possibility that CJ Roy may have received threats from another entity. The investigation is being conducted by a special team led by Karnataka government DIG Vamshi Krishna, which includes a joint commissioner and two superintendents of police. Central intelligence agencies are conducting a parallel investigation alongside this matter. The report from the Income Tax Department indicates that nothing occurred in the office on the day of the incident that would have led to Roy's suicide during the inspection. His brother, CJ Babu, alleged that Roy faced severe mental stress following the raid, which ultimately contributed to his death.

The silence maintained by the Income Tax Department officials under the central government regarding Roy's death is adding to the mystery. They have not disclosed the reasons for the raid or any legal violations Roy may have committed. The police have registered a case of unnatural death following a complaint from T. A. Joseph, the Managing Director of Confident Group. Roy organized a large party in Dubai last November as part of his efforts to expand his business there. Workers from the Malayalam film industry also attended the event. Many attendees were under surveillance by the Income Tax Department and the Central Economic Offences Investigation Agency, and several individuals close to Roy were questioned by these agencies.

After the Income Tax raid in December, Roy traveled to Dubai and returned to Bengaluru a few days ago. On the day of the tragedy, Income Tax officials arrived at the Confidant headquarters in Richmond Circle around noon. Roy arrived at 2 PM. Colleagues reported that he expressed a desire to speak with his mother, and he requested that others be barred from entering his cabin. He was found shot dead around 3:15 PM.
