LUCKNOW: A seventh-grade boy traded gold ornaments worth Rs 85 lakh for momos. The incident took place in the city of Deoria in Uttar Pradesh. Three vendors running the stall befriended the boy and, noticing his fondness for the snack, allegedly promised him "unlimited free momos" and other snacks for life in exchange for gold ornaments from his home. The boy traded the jewellery that was kept at home for 'free' momos. The jewellery was stolen from the house of Vimalesh, a temple priest in Varanasi. Vimesh says in his complaint that his son had been incited to commit the crime by being promised free momos.
The truth came out when Vimalesh's sister asked for the jewellery. When the family checked the jewellery kept in the cupboard, half of it was missing. When the boy was questioned, he told them that he had given the jewellery to momos sellers. Vimalesh later filed a complaint with the police. He said that jewellery worth about Rs 85 lakh was lost. The police have started an investigation into the incident. They are currently searching for the shop owners.
