KOCHI: Actor Sreenath Bhasi will be summoned for questioning in connection with the Alappuzha hybrid ganja case. A notice may be issued to him to appear for questioning next week. Bhasi had earlier approached the court seeking anticipatory bail in the case, but later withdrew the plea.
In his petition, Bhasi stated that someone had asked him if he wanted ganja, and he had responded to the question. Investigators view this interaction as a potential sign of involvement in ganja-related activities. Reports suggest that actor Shine Tom Chacko will be summoned for questioning only after Bhasi has been interrogated.
The investigation into the case—where a woman and another individual were arrested in Alappuzha with hybrid ganja—has been handed over to the Excise Assistant Commissioner. During the examination of the accused’s phones, leads were found pointing to connections with certain film celebrities. The Excise Department had earlier announced that notices would be issued and these celebrities would be summoned for questioning.
It was after this that Sreenath Bhasi approached the court, citing fear of arrest and seeking protection. The investigation is being led by Excise Assistant Commissioner R. Ashok Kumar. Hybrid ganja worth crores was seized in Alappuzha last week. Taslima Sultana, a native of Kannur and allegedly a key figure in a gang trafficking drugs into Kerala, was also arrested. According to Deputy Excise Commissioner S. Vinod Kumar, she had revealed the names of two film actors during questioning.
