Claim of ‘no party role’ falls flat, DYFI activists arrested in Payyannur attack

KANNUR: Two DYFI activists have been arrested in the case of attacking the house of former CPM activist T Purushothaman for supporting V Kunhikrishnan, the UDF independent candidate in Payyannur. The Payyannnur police arrested DYFI Payyannur west area president Sudheesh and Payyannur West area executive member Ajay Krishna.


The two were arrested at a time when they claim of having no role in the incident. They were arrested after examining the CCTV footage. More are suspected to be involved in the incident. The police indicate that the investigation is continuing to clarify the matter.


The attack happened on the night of the election day. When the inmates of the house woke up after hearing the sound of a window breaking, saw fire. They immediately doused the flames. Purushothaman was recently expelled from the party. Purushothaman worked with V Kunhikrishnan during election time.

Meanwhile, incidents of vandalism related to Kunhikrishnan’s campaign was also reported earlier. Walls painted for his campaign were defaced, and the bike of Prasanan, who supported him during fund controversy, was earlier set on fire.
