Husband arrested for stabbing wife and relatives in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: A man, angry that his wife had gone to her family home, allegedly stabbed his wife and three of her relatives in Palakkad. The incident took place at Mailumpuram near Ottapalam. The injured include a woman named Padmaja and her relatives. Police have arrested Padmaja's husband, Anil Kumar, in connection with the attack.

A traditional ritual was taking place at the family’s sacred grove at Padmaja’s house in Mailumpuram, where she had arrived two days ago. Anil Kumar was reportedly unhappy about his wife visiting her family home. Police say this anger led to the attack.

Padmaja was inside the house at the time of the attack. Anil Kumar, who arrived at the house with a weapon, first attacked her. Seeing this, her brother Sachin tried to stop him and was also stabbed. Two other relatives, Mohanakumar and Vishnujith, were injured while trying to intervene. All four injured persons were admitted to the hospital. The attack took place in front of Padmaja’s children.

Hospital authorities said the injuries suffered by Padmaja and Sachin are not serious. However, Mohanakumar and Vishnujith are reported to be seriously injured. Police have registered a case of attempted murder against Anil Kumar.
