Native of Karnataka held with Rs 62 lakh in Thrissur

THRISSUR: A bus passenger was caught with Rs 62 lakh. The incident happened Wednesday morning at Mudikkode on the Thrissur National Highway. The one taken into custody is Uday Shankar of Karnataka.

Ahead of the assembly elections, the excise squad was conducting vehicle checks across the state. Meanwhile, Uday Shankar was caught from a Karnataka Road Transport Corporation bus. He told the police that this was the money he received from selling a property in Karnataka. Uday Shankar also said that he was keeping this money in his hand to give an advance for another property in Kochi.

However, the arrested person did not have any documents related to this. The excise squad has handed over the seized money to the income tax department. The authorities said they will examine whether this money was brought from Karnataka in connection with the elections.
