Stabbed wife 17 times; Alappuzha Ambili murder accused Rajesh sentenced to double life imprisonment and fined two lakh

ALAPPUZHA: Rajesh, the accused in the case of stabbing his wife to death in the middle of the road, has been sentenced to double life imprisonment. Alappuzha Additional Sessions Court Judge S. Bharathi passed the sentence. Rajesh was also fined Rs. 2 lakh. The court had found Rajesh guilty.

The crime happened on May 18, 2024, around 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM. Rajesh Kumar (47) was an employee of the State Water Transport Department. Rajesh intercepted Ambili, a collection agent with the Thirunellur Service Cooperative Bank, on the Cherthala-Arukutty road near Pallichanda Junction in Pallippuram. He knocked her off her scooter and stabbed her 17 to 19 times in a brutal public attack, causing severe injuries to her neck and chest. She died while being transported for medical aid. Following the murder, Rajesh fled with a bag containing Rs 50,000 and a collection machine belonging to Ambili.

The murder was prompted by a family dispute, specifically after Ambili questioned Rajesh regarding his alleged extramarital relationship. The couple was estranged at the time of the incident.
