KOZHIKODE: The CCTV footage has emerged in the case where a 20-year-old youth committed suicide after killing his mother’s 16-year-old niece. The visuals show the youth turning the CCTV camera before entering the house through the kitchen door. He is a frequent troublemaker. The dead identified as Nasreena was awaiting her Class 10 exam results. Adnan, nephew of the victim’s mother ended his life after killing her. The incident happened in Kozhikode’s East Moozhikkal.

Adnan left his house last evening saying that he was going to his friend’s place. He entered Nasreena’s house at around 7:30 pm. The family did not notice him entering as they were outside participating in Vishu celebrations. Before entering, he had turned the CCTV camera positioned near the kitchen. He is believed to have entered the girl’s room and committed the murder around 8 pm, strangling her with a shawl. Hearing the commotion, the family rushed in and locked Adnan in a room and took Nasreena, who was struggling to breathe, to the hospital, but she died before reaching there.

When the family returned from the hospital, they found the room locked from inside. When repeated knocks on the door went unanswered, they broke open the door and found him hanging in the room. His face and mouth were tightly twined with cellophane tape.

Nasreena and Adnan were grandchildren of Hamsa and Safiya of Moozhikkal. Nasreena and her family are staying in their ancestral home. Though Adnan is from Ponnani, he was staying here until six months ago. Money had reportedly gone missing from the house multiple times. Nasreena had informed her family that Adnan was behind the theft. He was then thrown out of the house and this grudge is believed to have led to the murder.
