THRISSUR: Suresh Gopi said that the umbrells featuring portraits of national leaders is the dedication of Thrissur pooram to the country. It holds great importance as the country celebrates 75th anniversary of independence. He was inaugurating the Poorachamaya exhibition event of Paramekavu. The portraits of Gandhi, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Vivekananda and Chattambi Swami were included in the umbrellas. I was the one who came up with this idea, said Suresh Gopi.
BJP Thrissur district president K.K. Aneesh Kumar also informed that it was Suresh Gopi who came up with such an idea for Paramekavu. It is Suresh Gopi who said this idea to Paramekavu President Satheesh and Secretary Rajesh. Aneesh Kumar said that Suresh Gopi was also present to inaugurate the 'chamayapradarshanam'.
Following the controversy, the umbrellas containing Savarkar's picture were withdrawn. Paramekavu explained that the umbrellas contained portraits of leaders included in the list released by the central government in connection with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
