Heatstroke claims one more life; welding employee dies while undergoing treatment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The scorching heat has claimed one more life in the state. Shine of Venkulam in Edava died of heatstroke. He died early Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital.


Shine, a welding worker, collapsed while returning from work on April 18. He was immediately admitted to Parippally Medical College. An examination conducted here revealed that he had suffered heatstroke. He was then shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for better treatment. 40-year-old Shine was a bachelor.

Meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the temperature in the state will rise today. It is reported that it will be three to four degrees Celsius higher than normal. There is a possibility of the temperature rising up to 40 degrees Celsius in Palakkad.


The temperature will rise up to 39 degrees Celsius in Kollam and up to 38 degrees Celsius in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kozhikode. The IMD informed that the temperature is likely to rise up to 37 degrees Celsius in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod and up to 36 degrees Celsius in Thiruvananthapuram.


The IMD has warned that hot and humid weather is likely in these districts, except in the hilly areas, due to high temperatures and humid air. There is no specific rain warning in any of the districts today. Light rain is expected in all districts. A yellow alert has been issued in various districts for tomorrow, the day after tomorrow and May 1.
