THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The eleven-day deadlock over Kerala’s next Chief Minister is nearing its conclusion. After a series of high-level deliberations and conflicting claims, the Congress High Command has reportedly finalised its choice. Senior leader Jairam Ramesh announced in New Delhi yesterday that the official proclamation would be made in Thiruvananthapuram today.
AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala, Deepa Dasmunsi, is expected to deliver the High Command's decision in a sealed envelope. Insiders indicate that KC Venugopal is the likely pick, bolstered by the consensus of a majority of MLAs, MPs, and veteran party leaders.
Despite the rumours, the camps of the three primary contenders remain steadfast. VD Satheesan's supporters point to his decade-long leadership in the opposition and his rapport with coalition partners as key assets. Meanwhile, Ramesh Chennithala remains a hopeful dark horse, relying on his seniority to resolve the internal rivalry.
The transition process will begin this morning. Following KC Venugopal’s arrival at 11:30 AM, the Parliamentary Party will convene to ratify the leader. The day is expected to culminate in a celebratory roadshow and a formal meeting with the Governor to initiate the government-forming process.
