KOCHI: A showroom employee died after a car rolled backwards off a trailer in a tragic mishap in Kochi a few days back. The Motor Vehicles Department concluded that the tragedy was due to human error. This conclusion comes amidst the trade union blaming a defect in the vehicle to be behind the accident.

Anshad, a member of the District Car Drivers Union and a native of Palarivattom, who caused the accident, was earlier arrested by the police and released on bail. He has been charged with culpable homicide and reckless driving. His driving license may be suspended. On the request of the Palarivattom police, officials of the Motor Vehicles Department inspected the Range Rover Vogue car that was involved in the accident the other day. The report denied any mechanical or technical fault in the vehicle.

The accident occurred at 11.30 pm on the 22nd at the godown in Palarivattom, Chalikavattom, of the Jaguar Range Rover car distribution company operating in Kundannoor. Roshan Antony Xavier (36), a showroom demo coordinator at the distribution company and a resident of Pandikudy, Mattancherry, was killed in the accident. Aneesh, a member of the Car Drivers Union, was also injured in the accident.
