KANNUR: A suspicious object, believed to be a body wrapped in a mat, was found inside a grave in Kannur. The incident took place at the Infant Jesus Church cemetery in Vaniyappara, Kannur. The discovery has raised doubts about whether two bodies were buried in the same grave at the same time. The Karikkottakari police have started a preliminary investigation into the incident.
The incident came to light six days ago when the priest and church officials opened a grave to bury a new body. When the grave was opened and examined, they found another object inside that looked like a body wrapped in a mat. Church authorities and police are trying to find out how this object, wrapped in a mat, reached inside the grave. Such a burial method is not part of traditional Christian burial practices.
Church priest Father Gilbert Konnayil said there is a suspicion that the object found inside the grave could be a body that had undergone a post-mortem examination. He also said that the church authorities themselves informed the police about the matter.
The incident has been widely discussed on social media in recent days. The information reached locals through a Facebook post shared by local resident Jins Unnimakkal. In his post, Jins said that according to Christian burial customs, there is no possibility of a body wrapped in a mat being buried along with another body in the same grave. The Karikkottakari police said scientific examination is needed to confirm whether the object found is a human body, as it was completely decomposed. A detailed investigation is underway to bring more clarity to the incident.
