"Ramya Haridas is making voters touch her feet"; Reality behind this video

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There was a campaign on social media that Alathur MP Ramya Haridas is making voters touch her feet. In a video, women can be seen touching Ramya’s feet, who is in the middle of a large crowd. Videos were posted with captions like ‘Ramya is making elder women touch her feet in the presence of a large crowd’.

But, the reality behind the news is different. These were live footages on the MP’s Facebook page. The incident was when the MP came to express her gratitude for election victory. In a village, where Tamil people are in abundance, they welcomed the MP by their ritual. This video was used against Ramya Haridas on social media.

From the video, it can be clearly seen that she is conversing with the people in a loving manner. She expressed her gratitude to the voters through speech. The voters there marked her forehead with sandal paste on a platter and welcomes her by pouring water at her feet. Videos were spread in such a manner that the women are touching Ramya’s feet, while actually, they were following the ritual.
