KOCHI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the sexual assault case against director Ranjith has completed its investigation. The SIT said there is evidence against Ranjith, but gave a clean chit to actor Bobby Kurian and others. Bobby Kurian had been accused of helping Ranjith go into hiding. However, the investigation found no evidence to support this claim.
The alleged incident took place on the set of a film directed by Ranjith. The SIT questioned internal committee members and others who were present on the set. Officials said they are now moving towards filing the charge sheet and have collected clear evidence against the director. Police had earlier questioned Bobby Kurian. They concluded that neither he nor others had knowingly helped Ranjith evade the law.
Reports say Ranjith may approach the court seeking relaxation in his bail conditions. He was arrested on March 31 based on a complaint by a young actress. The case alleges that he behaved inappropriately with her inside a caravan on the film set. The incident reportedly took place on January 30. Ranjith has denied the allegations and claimed that the case is false while being taken to the sub-jail.
