PALAKKAD: In a significant blow to the CPM following its recent electoral losses, 21 party members in Palakkad have tendered their resignations. The mass departure is reportedly in protest against the demotion of Area Committee member Abdul Shukkoor, who had recently voiced criticisms against the district leadership.

The defecting members include Salina Beevi, Muhammad Raziq, R. Ramesh, B. Vinod, Jafaruddin, Nousheer, N. Anwar, Shemim Shahul, S. Sunil, Abbas, Kaulabi, Farida Raziq, Sini, Daivani, Afsal, Abran, Rajeesh, Satheesh (Kannan), Arshiq, Hakeem, and Sebeena.

The resignations have severely impacted the party’s grassroots structure in the Othungode, AKG Nagar, EMS Nagar, and Vennakkara branch committees. The unrest began after the Area Committee demoted Abdul Shukkoor to the Local Committee last day.

Responding to the disciplinary action, Shukkoor stated that he was deeply pained by remarks from within the party suggesting his positions were mere "acts of charity." He affirmed that such comments necessitated his exit from the organisation.
