THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: About six thousand new teaching posts are likely to be created in aided schools in the state. Minister V Shivankutty informed that the fixing of other posts has been completed and the additional teaching post finalizing process will be completed soon.
The Department of Public Education will prepare the list of additional teaching posts and forward it to the Finance Department for approval. Further steps will be taken only after getting the approval of Finance Department. There is ambiguity in this regard due to the current financial crisis. The new teaching posts in AIDS schools are being looked into after a gap of three years.
1.20 lakh students have taken admission in public schools this year
This year, 1,19,970 children were newly enrolled in classes two to ten in the public schools of the state. Out of this, 44,915 are in government schools and 75,055 are in aided schools. Of these, 24 percent are from recognized unaided schools and 76 percent from schools working on alternative syllabuses. In public schools, the highest number of new children were enrolled in fifth grade (32,545) and eighth grade (28,791).
According to the data on the sixth working day of the current academic year, government, aided and recognized unaided schools have 38,32,395 students in classes one to ten. If higher secondary is added it will be 46,61,138. 3,03,168 children got admission to Class I. Most students are from Malappuram (20.35 percent) and least from Pathanamthitta (2.25 percent). If only government schools are taken, children have increased in all districts except Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Children have decreased in government aided sector, except in Malappuram. The representation of Scheduled Castes stands at 9.8 percent and Scheduled Tribes at 1.8 percent.
