BERLIN: All swimmers at public pools in Berlin is now allowed to swim topless irrespective of gender. The authorities issued the new rule last Thursday. The new order comes after a woman took legal action when she was thrown out of a public pool for sunbathing topless.
The woman had approached the office of the Senate’s Ombudsman demanding that women should be allowed to swim topless just like men. It was then that the Berlin Baederbetriebe which is in charge of public swimming pools, changed the rule. Germany makes concessions on nudity by gender. But there was discussion over whether it should be allowed in public swimming pools.
