13-year-old girl dies as hair gets stuck in generator on a cart during temple fest

CHENNAI: A 13-year-old girl died after her hair got stuck in a generator placed on a cart during a temple festival. The dead identified as Lavanya was a seventh class student of Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.

A diesel generator was placed at the rear on the ox pulling cart. Police said her hair got stuck in a small fan in the generator. However, no one heard her cries due to the sound of the loudspeakers. Only when the generator was switched off, they heard her crying. She was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital and then to Kancheepuram Government Hospital, but her life could not be saved. A case has been registered by the Magaral police. Generator operator Munisami was arrested and released on station bail.

Lavanya’s mother died three months back. Her father Saravanan works in Chennai. She was staying with her grandparents along with her brother Bhuvanesh
