NEW DELHI: A video showing India's indigenously developed torpedo Varunastra successfully engaging an underwater target has come out. The mission, which took place on the western coast, has turned out to be a milestone for the Indian Navy and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The video was released by the Indian Navy. The 8-second video shows Varunastra torpedo hitting a target, which appeared like a pontoon, in the sea. This was followed by a huge blast.

Anti-submarine torpedo Varunastra was inducted into the Navy in 2016. Varunastra, which is capable of destroying submarines within seconds, was developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), a premier laboratory of DRDO.
Weighing around 1.25 tonnes, the torpedo carries about 250 kg of explosives at a speed of around 40 nautical miles an hour. It is capable of destroying submarines
