Clash between families of bride and groom for serving payasam before finishing rice

CHENNAI: A fight broke out during an engagement ceremony in the name of payasam. The incident happened at Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district in Tamil Nadu. The clash was between the relatives of the bride and the groom. When it turned violent, the police intervened and dispersed them.

The engagement was held at a marriage hall in Sirkazhi. The problems started when sadya was served after the function. A dispute broke out first when payasam was served before finishing the rice. Then the groom’s relatives complained about the taste of the payasam. When the dispute escalated, one from the groom’s side threw payasam at the girl’s relatives. Then a major clash was witnessed.

The furniture of the eating hall was smashed and thrown out. When the situation turned violent, the Sirkash police reached the spot and dispersed both the teams. The visuals of it are going viral on social media. The police have not registered a case as the two groups have no complaint.
