Cyclone Tej makes landfall on Yemen coast; heavy rains, flash floods and landslides in Oman

SANA'A: Cyclone Tej, which was formed in the Arabian Sea, made landfall in Yemen earlier today. The cyclone made landfall in Al Mahrah between 2.30 a.m and 3.30 a.m this morning. The wind is blowing at a speed of 150 km per hour.

The Meteorological Department had earlier warned that Cyclone Tej could make landfall as a severe cyclone along the coast between Al Ghaidah in Yemen and Salalah in Oman.

Meanwhile, Oman is receiving heavy rains under the influence of Tej. It started raining yesterday evening. Several people were evacuated from coastal areas as the rain intensified. Rain is expected to continue till Wednesday.

The Dhofar Governorate in Oman is likely to receive heavy rain and severe winds, the Meteorological Department added. According to reports, the region could see up to 200 mm of rain. Flash floods are also likely in the region. Authorities from Oman Civil Aviation reported a landslide in the governorate of Al Mahrah.

As the water sources have overflowed in some places, people have been advised not to go out except in cases of emergency. Power outages have been reported in Rakhyut and Dhalkut areas.
