TEL AVIV: Israel has firmly rejected calls to halt its ongoing ground operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, signalling a further intensification of the conflict. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has officially ordered the military to sustain targeted airstrikes and operations against Hezbollah strongholds in Dahiyeh, a southern suburb of Beirut.

The directive follows a significant military milestone in southern Lebanon, where Israeli forces captured the strategically vital Beaufort Castle near Nabatieh. Marked by the raising of the Israeli flag over the fortress, the operation represents Israel’s deepest territorial incursion into Lebanon in 26 years.

Perched on a high rocky cliff, the 900-year-old citadel provides Israeli forces with a commanding vantage point to monitor Hezbollah movements and coordinate further military manoeuvres. However, the human toll of the offensive continues to mount; local reports indicate that the death toll in Lebanon has surpassed 3,430 since March 2. The escalating violence has drawn sharp international criticism, with France leading the condemnation of Israel's military actions.

Regional tensions flared further following a series of direct military engagements involving United States forces and Iran. US warplanes launched targeted airstrikes against Iranian military radar and drone installations on Goruk and Qeshm islands in southern Iran. Washington confirmed the operation was a direct response to the downing of an American drone a day prior.
In swift retaliation early this morning, Iran launched a missile strike targeting US military bases in Kuwait. Western defence systems successfully intercepted the incoming projectiles, and officials confirmed that no casualties or significant damages were reported.

The Iranian government has vehemently denied widespread rumours suggesting that President Masoud Pezeshkian is preparing to step down. Speculation had been mounting that Pezeshkian submitted his resignation to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei following severe disagreements with the country’s military leadership.

Dismissing the claims entirely, the President’s office issued a formal statement branding the reports as fabrication. Tehran attributed the rumours to foreign media outlets, characterising them as a coordinated disinformation campaign aimed at undermining Iran's national unity during a period of heightened regional instability.
