Sexual assault and murder of five-year-old girl in Aluva; trial completed in 26 days, verdict to be delivered on November 4

KOCHI: Ernakulam POCSO Court will pronounce its verdict on November 4 in the case of the kidnap, sexual assault and murder of a five-year-old girl in Aluva. The trial in the case was completed in 26 days.

The five-year-old daughter of a couple from Bihar was killed on July 28. The accused in the case is Asfaq Alam, a native of Bihar. Asfaq Alam, who had come to live in the house next door to the couple, took the five-year-old girl from the house, abused her and killed her. Asfaq Alam was arrested by the police after the information that the child was missing came out. No information about the child was received from the accused who was intoxicated.

The child's body was found tied in a sack on the morning of July 29, in the Aluva market area. CCTV footage was obtained of the accused going to the shop with the child, buying her juice and taking her away from there. Nine charges including murder and rape have been charged against the accused. Police had filed a charge sheet in the case immediately. The trial started on October 4 considering it as a very serious case
