HYDERABAD: Telangana, which has witnessed unprecedented election campaigning, will call its verdict today.
3.17 crore voters in 119 constituencies will go to the polling booth today. BJP has also been active in campaigning in the state where there is fierce competition between the ruling party BRS and Congress.
BRS's trump card is the welfare measures taken by the government, including financial assistance to farmers, and the influence of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. The Congress, which has fielded its national leadership including Rahul Gandhi, asked for votes by giving 6 guarantees like in the Karnataka model.
BJP also campaigned strongly under the leadership of Modi and Amit Shah. AIMIM, a minority party, is also active in the election arena.
The Telugu Desam Party, which was active in Telangana, is not contesting this time. They had won six seats last time.
A curfew is in place in Telangana till the elections are over. Telangana will also count their votes on December 3. along with the states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram.
