BENGALURU: A Flipkart delivery executive has been arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly forcing his way into a woman's apartment without her consent and trying to sexually harass her after asking to use her washroom. The incident escalated into a police investigation after the victim shared her ordeal alongside a video recorded during the encounter on social media.
The accused has been identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath. Following a formal complaint registered at the Marathahalli Police Station, law enforcement officials arrested Kamath on Sunday, July 12. The accused has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), facing charges under Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 329(2) (house trespass).
According to the complainant, the encounter began when Kamath arrived at her apartment to deliver a parcel and subsequently requested permission to use her washroom. The woman stated that she repeatedly and politely refused his request, explaining that she does not permit strangers inside her residence. She further advised him to seek assistance from her male neighbours if it was an emergency. Despite her explicit objections, Kamath allegedly removed his footwear and walked directly into her flat without her permission.
The victim revealed that the harassment escalated immediately after he used the facility. When he came out of the washroom, he exposed his private parts to her, leaving her feeling shocked, violated, humiliated, and completely unsafe in her own home. She emphasised that when a woman says no, it should be the end of the conversation, adding that no one has the right to ignore boundaries or force entry into someone's home.
Describing her terror during the encounter, the woman explained that she kept her phone camera recording, left the main door wide open, and stood near the entrance so she could instantly run outside for help if the situation worsened. She expressed that the trauma of the incident, compounded by frequent reports of crimes against women, has left her feeling profoundly unsafe in her own home. The Bengaluru police initiated legal action and apprehended the delivery executive after her social media post gained widespread public attention.
In an official statement, Flipkart expressed deep disturbance over the incident and extended its full support to the affected customer, emphasising that customer safety remains entirely non-negotiable. The e-commerce platform confirmed that it immediately terminated the engagement of the delivery executive involved upon learning of the matter. While describing such occurrences as isolated, the company stated they are completely unacceptable. Flipkart added that it is currently reviewing whether further measures are necessary to strengthen customer safety protocols and reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating fully with the investigating authorities.
