THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Public Education Director S Shanavas on Thursday submitted a report as requested by Minister V Sivankutty regarding his A Plus remark. In his report, Shanavas stated that his remarks were not the policy or opinion of the government. He said that the opinion he expressed for discussion in the workshop for teachers preparing the question paper was personal.
He also clarified that it was not his intention to downgrade the government policy or assessment method. However, he has not withdrawn his controversial remark.
Shanavas likely to face action
Meanwhile, it is indicated that the Public Education director is likely to face action as the department's claim that the public education sector is booming has been dealt a heavy blow. The Principal Secretary of the Department of Public Education has been entrusted with the departmental inquiry. Minister V Sivankutty said that after consulting with the Chief Minister, an agency will be appointed to find out the teachers who leaked the discussion in the confidential meeting to the media. However, a large number of teachers agree that the standard of public education is falling by awarding marks without merit in SSLC exams.
