NEW DELHI: Tension prevailed during a march led by the INDIA bloc towards the Supreme Court on Monday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Police stopped the march with barricades around 200 metres from the Supreme Court. Protesters subsequently toppled the barricades and climbed onto them and a police vehicle to stage their protest. Scuffles broke out between police personnel and protesters as the police forcibly removed those standing in front of the barricades. Police also cleared people from the footpath.

Heavy security arrangements have been put in place outside the Supreme Court, with Delhi Police personnel, central forces and the Rapid Action Force deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging Gyanesh Kumar's actions. Lawyers representing the Congress leader submitted the petition, which the court will consider on Tuesday.
Police also asked INDIA bloc leaders to withdraw from the protest, citing concerns that the crowd was becoming uncontrollable. A Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) directly conveyed the request to Rahul Gandhi.

Thousands of protesters are participating in the march led by Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Leaders of constituent parties of the INDIA bloc are also taking part in the march, which began at Constitution Club.
