Class 9 girl with abdominal pain found to be pregnant, best friend arrested

PATHANAMTHITTA: In an untoward incident, police registered a case against a 14-year-old boy after his classmate turned out to be pregnant. Both are students of a school in the eastern hilly region of Pathanamthitta district. The 14-year-old boy was taken into police custody soon after the complaint was registered. It was found that the boy had copulated several times with the minor girl.

Relatives initially took the girl to a local hospital after she suffered severe abdominal pain. Later she was shifted to a private medical college in Thiruvalla for expert treatment. It was confirmed that the girl was pregnant during the test conducted here. After being informed by the hospital authorities, the police reached and took the child's statement. The police said that the two had been studying in the same class for a long time and shared a close bond.
