Three arrested for allegedly electrocuting wild elephant

EDAKKARA: Three people have been arrested by the forest department in the case for allegedly electrocuting a wild elephant to death at Nambooripotti. The case is against four people. One of the accused is absconding. The arrested have been identified as Mangatil Ramachandran (52), Kunnakadan Sudheesh (39) and Shibu George (43) of Parayidam, natives of Moothedam's Nambooripotti. They were arrested by a team led by Nilambur Range Officer KG Anwar

According to the case, the electrocuted to death and the evidence was destroyed. On February 16, the body of a wild elephant was found lying on the banks of a river in Nambooripotti. Kanjirapuzha Deputy Range Officer K Girishan, Section Forest Officers P Manukuttan, Sreejith and Beat Forest Officers AK Ramesan, K Satheesh Kumar, Antony Thomas, KN Hareesh, T Jayakrishnan, Zakeer Karattuchalil and Harikrishnan were also part of the investigation team.
