THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mayor Arya Rajendran says she has been assessing the operations of the control room at the main office of the Municipal Corporation for emergency assistance to solve problems caused by the heavy rains. The control room is functioning every day in view of the emergency situation. The mayor informed that all the complaints received are being resolved immediately.

"One complaint that came to our attention today was regarding waterlogging on a byroad in Venpalavattam. The officials were immediately instructed to address it. Motorized pumping of water is ongoing. Steps are also being taken to find a permanent solution here. Control Room No: 9446677838."

The Meteorological Center has indicated that the heavy rain falling in the state for the last five days is likely to subside by Saturday. Heavy rain will continue today and tomorrow. The heavy rain, which was concentrated in South Kerala yesterday, has spread to all the districts. Due to high waves, fishing is not allowed along the Kerala coast. Coastal residents should be alert as there is a possibility of storm surge. There is also a possibility of strong thunder and wind in northern districts.

Heavy rains in August

Monsoon will arrive early in the state this year. The Meteorological Department has warned that there may be heavy rains in the second quarter of August. June and July receive regular or slightly more rainfall. The surface temperature of the Indian Ocean is higher now. This is normalization due to the early onset of monsoon. Monsoon becomes stronger in August and September due to the change in the dipole phenomenon in the Indian Ocean. A dipole is an irregular weather phenomenon in the Indian Ocean that occurs when the water surface temperature differs between the eastern tropics and the western tropics.
