THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A dispute erupted in the CPI executive over the selection of the CPI candidate for the Rajya Sabha election. The dispute broke out after the name of CPI national leader Prakash Babu was raised along with Assistant Secretary PP Suneer.

It was CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam who put forward Suneer's name. Following this, Mullakkara Rathnakaran raised the name of Prakash Babu. Leaders such as E Chandrasekaran, K. Rajan and GR Anil supported Prakash Babu. However, Binoy Viswam stood firm in his stand that this time, Rajya Sabha membership is essential for Suneer, who is from the minority community. He said that this was the party's stand. With this, it was decided to name Suneer as the party candidate. However, the state secretary had to face stiff opposition in the meeting.
