THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: According to the latest radar image, the central meteorological department informs that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places and strong winds of up to 40 km per hour in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts in the next three hours.
Rain warning has been issued in 12 districts today except Alappuzha and Kasaragod. Orange alert has been declared in Ernakulam and Thrissur. Chance of heavy rain at isolated places is predicted. Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad are on yellow alert. Disaster Management Department has warned that non-essential travel should be avoided. There is also a warning that there is a possibility of landslides in the hilly areas.
A cyclonic vortex has formed over southern Sri Lanka. From Rayalaseema to Kumarin region, a low pressure belt is located upto 900 meters height. As a result of this, there is a possibility of moderate rain with widespread thunder and lightning in Kerala for the next five days. The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of very heavy rain at isolated places from August 13 to 15 and heavy rain from August 13 to 17.
