Writer Maitreyan has apologised to actor and director Prithviraj for the remarks he made against the latter in an interview. In the interview, Maitreyan had said that he did not trust Prithviraj as a director and hence, he will not watch his film Empuraan.

Maitreyan came up with the apology after his statements sparked a debate on social media. He expressed regret for having become like a "stick to beat" Prithviraj. He also stated that he would watch Empuraan in theatres.

Maitreyan's Facebook post

'Respected Prithviraj,

Three people indeed came to interview me. It is also true that we discussed various topics, including cinema, direction, and acting. I also spoke about the films you directed. The statement in this poster is something that I said. However, I was unaware that they were asking those questions with the intention of releasing such a poster against you. I regret having turned into a "stick to beat you". I sincerely apologize. I will watch your film.'

Meanwhile, Empuraan will be released worldwide this Thursday. It is the sequel to the blockbuster film Lucifer which was released in 2019. The film will be released in five languages- Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi.
