Relief as Kerala reports no COVID-19 positive cases on Friday, nine patients recover

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a day of relief for Kerala, no COVID-19 case was reported on Friday while nine recovered from the disease, Health Minister KK Shailaja said.

Of the nine recoveries, four each are from Kannur and Kasaragod districts and one from Ernakulam. With this the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in the state rose to 392. Currently, 102 persons are under treatment for COVID-19 at various hospitals, a press release from the Health Minister’s office said.

There are 21,499 persons under observation in the state, including 432 at hospitals. On Friday, 106 persons were admitted to hospitals. Smples of 27,150 symptomatic persons have been sent for testing out of which 26,225 have turned negative, the release added.

As part of sentinel surveillance, samples of healthcare workers, migrant workers, person with more social contact were collected. such samples were sent for and results of 999 returned negative for coronavirus. In order to strengthen community testing, 3128 samples were sent for testing, out of which 3089 returned negative.

The government has declared 10 new hotspots in the state. Uduma in Kasaragod, Marancherry in Malappuram, and Kulathur, Parassala, Athiyannoor, Karode, Vellarada, Amboori and Balaramapuram are the new hotspots taking the total number of hotspots to 80.
