THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Famous cartoonist and folklore singer P S Banerjee (41) of Manakkara Mana died here Friday. He died early this morning while undergoing treatment for post Covid complications at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. He was a native of Sasthamcotta in Kollam.
He had received Lalithakala Akademi Fellowship. He was a graphic designer in an IT firm in Technopark. He leaves behind his parents Pachu and Subadra, wife Jayaprabha and children Oscar and Noble. The song ‘Tharaka Pennale Kathiradum Mizhiyale’ sung by Banerjee had garnered a lot of attention.
One of the best caricaturists Kerala has ever seen, Banerjee was noticed at the national level also. He was hospitalised for Covid on July 2. Banerjee was selected for solo cartoon exhibition of Lalithakala Academy two weeks before. He was selected by the State Folklore Academy in 2014 as the best young talent.
He was staying at Sreekaryam Chaitanya Lane, Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Cartoon Academy condoled Banerjee's death. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also condoled his death.
