THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSRTC is planning to adopt the railway model by introducing season tickets on long-distance buses. This move comes as part of the Transport Department's plan to revise the road transport in the state and make it travel friendly.

A passenger will be able to board those including Super Class buses using a season ticket. Travel cards will also be introduced as part of a plan to change the regular service modes of transport buses.

Season tickets will be of great benefit to employees who have to travel from one district to another for work. People coming from places where there is no train traffic have to depend on Fast Passenger or Superfast buses.KSRTC estimates that 60 percent of those who rely on transport buses except on holidays are regular passengers. Travel cards are meant to attract passengers on ordinary buses. These are the types of cards that can be recharged and used. Season ticket charges are 20% lower than normal rates.

Thiruvananthapuram model

Apart from the city circular service implemented in the capital city, the Thiruvananthapuram model will include city peripheral, city radial and city feeder services. All these services will be launched in Thiruvananthapuram in two months. The project will be implemented in all 14 districts within two years. Under this scheme, buses will operate in all rural areas of the state where there are no bus services at present.
