Covid vaccination among eligible teenagers crosses 50 percent, Thrissur comes on top

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: More than half (51 percent) of children in the state between the ages of 15 and 18 have received the first dose Covid vaccine, Health Minister Veena George said. A total of 7,66,741 children were vaccinated. Thrissur district had the highest number of children vaccinated- 97,458. Vaccination of children in the state started on January 3.

The vaccine was administered by organizing a special vaccination drive to quickly vaccinate as many children as possible in wake of the Omicron situation. The minister said more than half of the children in the specific age group has been vaccinated in just 12 days.

District wise breakup of vaccination

Thiruvananthapuram 70,021, Kollam 60,597, Pathanamthitta 29,584, Alappuzha 57,764, Kottayam 47,835, Idukki 28,571, Ernakulam 56,943, Thrissur 97,458, Palakkad 76,145, Malappuram 70,144, Kozhikode 45,789, Wayanad 24,415 and Kasargod 27,642.

So far, the precautionary dose has been given to 1,67,813 people in the state. The precautionary dose was given to 96,946 health workers, 26,360 Covid frontline warriors, and 44,507 people over the age of 60 with comorbidities. 99.68% (2,66,24,042) of the eligible population over the age of 18 was vaccinated with a first dose of the Covid vaccine and 82.27% (2,19,73,681) with both doses.
