NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court criticized the CPM in connection with the demolition of Shaheen Bagh. The court is not a place to play politics and let the residents of Shaheen Bagh file a petition first, a bench led by Justices L Nageshwara Rao and B R Gawai said while considering the plea.

The court also criticized for coming directly to the apex court with the plea. If approached the high court first and if the plea is dismissed there, then can understand the situation of approaching the Supreme Court. Here it has come directly to the Supreme Court.

The court also directed to file the plea in the high court tomorrow. Until then, the demolition process should be suspended, the court said. With this, the CPM has withdrawn the plea. The apex court has also criticized the Centre for not giving notice before the demolition.

After Jahangirpuri, Shaheen Bagh is also being demolished as part of the evacuation attempt. The locals came in protest against the incident. The protestors stopped the bulldozer which came for the demolition drive.
