KANNUR: A thief who entered a house to steal accidentally fell into a well. The locals rescued him and handed him over to the police. The incident happened at Thumbathadam of Kannur Eramam-Kuttoor panchayat last night. Shemeer 35 of Thaliparambu and accused in many theft cases fell into the well during a robbery bid. The neighbours came running hearing his cries and with the help of the fire force took him out and handed him over to the police.

Shemeer reached the house of Pavithran Master in Thumbathadam at 10 pm last night. He planned to rob his house after knowing that Master and his wife had gone to their relative’s house in the capital city. He abandoned his scooter at a nearby bush and walked towards the house. He fell into the well while trying to climb the parapet after stepping on it.

A portion of the parapet collapsed and he fell onto the well. The well, which was about thirty feet deep had about four feet of water in it. The neighbours who heard his screams informed the fire brigade and he was brought ashore using a net. He was then handed over to the police. He will be produced in the court today.
