CHENNAI: A 40-year-old woman was gang-raped and murdered in Tamil Nadu. The body was later set ablaze. The police arrested six natives of Odisha in connection with the incident. The six were workers of a shrimp farm. The incident happened near Vadakadu fishing town in Rameshwaram.
The woman had gone to collect sea weeds. When she failed to reach home, her husband and relatives went in search of her but could not trace her. They later lodged a complaint with the police.
A burnt body of the woman was found near the shrimp farm in a search by the police. The locals saw the body. In a fit of rage, they set the farm on fire.
The gang-rape and murder came to light when questioned some of the workers of the farm. The body was set on fire in order to destroy evidence.
